Pack Light!
Please note that the interisland airlines limit the weight of your baggage. Each passenger can bring 20 kg (44 pounds) of baggage. More than that could cost you. Hey, it's a tropical island -- who needs heavy clothes anyway!

Flying from the U.S.
For almost everyone, it will make sense to fly to Tahiti non-stop out of Los Angeles. You'll be flying to Faa'a International Airport (airport code PPT) in the city of Papeete on the island of Tahiti in the country of French Polynesia (and then you'll transfer to a domestic flight to Moorea, see below). Olga and Scott are taking Air Tahiti Nui based on recommendations from a variety of travel message boards. Their cabins are modern -- you get personal tv's and video games for the 7-1/2 hour flight on the Airbus 340-300's! Their service is friendly--Polynesian
hostesses welcome you with a Tiare Tahiti flower as you board. Air Tahiti Nui lets you redeem (but not earn) American AAdvantage miles. Other options include Air New Zealand (a member of the Star Alliance, for you United fans), Corsair, Qantas, Hawaiian Airlines (partners with Alaska, America West, American, Continental, and Northwest), and Air France (partners with Delta and Continental).

Flights to Tahiti aren't as frequent as we're used to with U.S. flights. Be sure to plan your connections to the local interisland flights as well.

We suspect that many of you might like Air Tahiti Nui flight TN1 that leaves at 1pm on Fri, Sat, or Sun and arrives in Papeete at 6:35pm. Here's their schedule for the week of July 19 from LAX to Papeete.

Flying within Tahiti
Once you land at Faa'a, you'll need to get to the island of Moorea where our wedding will take place. It's about a 10 minute flight. There are two main choices here, Air Tahiti (which is the dominant interisland carrier, and is different than Air Tahiti Nui) and Air Moorea which specializes in the connection between Tahiti and Moorea. If you're continuing to other islands, you'll probably use Air Tahiti, as they have "Air Passes" allowing travel among multiple islands. By flying in, you also get a cool view of the islands from above.

If you're feeling adventurous, or just like to be on the sea, you can also go from Papeete to Moorea by boat -- there are a variety of ferries that range in price and speed (between 30 minutes and an hour). Keep in mind you'll have to get from the airport to the dock. Options here are the Aremiti Ferry, the Moorea Ferry, and Ono Ono. Here's some more info on ferries.

Getting to the Hotel
If transfers aren't part of your package, then you'll need to get from the Temae Airport in Moorea to the hotel. One option is to take a taxi (about 2,800 CFP to the Sheraton -- or about $30). Be sure to negotiate the fare before you get in. Another is to arrange a transfer with Torea Nui Transport (500 CFP or about $5 per person); they have an office at the Moorea airport, and you can book them when you buy your Air Moorea flight.
